Are we, owners of Workstation 14 Pro, unfortunate or was it scheduled ?

However THIS thread on potential problems with 1903 started 2019-04-04 with user comment.

It seems to me that initial problems came from both VMW versions 14 and 15 and I just guess some MSFT early release, some inner circle or dev preview.

Which makes me think that VMWare probably knew about the issue at the beginning and simply dithed version 14 and probably patched version 15 (15.5 now will probably patch that).

However same product life cycle tells me that Workstation 15 has end of support on 2020-12-19  roughly in one year :-(.

 

And so when they schedule another update with MSFT or somethign similar happen unexpectedly, then VMWare will flip the switch and I'll be done.

I do see regular poeple helping each other here on forum, supplementing official support from VMWare, and I'm not sure I've seen any official statement here. Pretty no support at all.

I always thought about VMWare as leader of the VM segment, but maybe they grown too much and became non-operational.

 

I have tried even tricks like turn on and off hyper-v, reboots in between, disabled vEthernet NIC adapter etc.
Workstation 14 installed from scratch, no previous setup (test PC). Still the same issue, some Compatibility Assistant simply tells that Workstation will not even start (app itself, no VMs inside yet).

 

With problems reported to ver 15 here, and (sorry to say) lousy support I see, I'm not going to spend 150 US$ for things which "might" work and will break every year.

Where way via MSFT ADK 'Compatibility Administrator Tool' seems to be working. At least Workstation 14 Pro starts and is able to run VM unit (tested with old Win2008 server).

Hello baber

 

Provided your SSDs are certified for cache-tier usage with vSAN and the HDDs are on the vSAN HCL and you have adequate controllers and you have the necessary level of vSAN licensing and the servers support the major version of ESXi you plan on running on them, then yes, you could configure it for vSAN.

This being said, just because you can enable something this doesn't necessarily make it a good idea or something that you would benefit from doing - designing/using servers for one purpose and then at a later point shoe-horning vSAN into them is not always a good idea without properly designing it out for a purpose and usage (e.g. in this case without adding anything all you could do is 2 Disk-Groups with 1 SDD + 1 HDD each or one DG with 1 SSD and 2 HDDs neither of which is a great nor spacious design).

So thanks

Actually we bought SSD disks for use VFLASH but as I understod VSAN is more suitable rather than VFRC on the other hand I have enterprise plus license / esxi 6.7 and HP DL580 G10

now I think if I want use better frm SSD disk it's better create and configure VSAN in my cluster and reside some of machines on that.  is that correct ?

That is a very old module and the source of some known issues.

Can you try the following

 

Install-PackageProvider-Name Nuget –Force 

 

Install-Module–Name PowerShellGet –Force

Install-Module-Name PackageManagement -Force

waqasalisha .. "this best technical youtube channel for IT Professionals."  ROFLOL. Maybe in your language.

But I sort of expected English speaking channel and maybe something more than statement that version 15.5 should fix the VMWare Workstation issue.

Not going to buy upgrade for getting my software workign again, and maybe for one more year.

VM Ware player 15 can not ping the host

My VM ware was working and I accepted a few updates from Windows 10 and I am not able to ping the host any more.  The VM will start up but the website will not work.  Any suggestions?

 

I checked the firewall through MacAfee.

vSphere 6.7.0 Build 10244857

 

I want to ensure I can update EVERYTHING.  I work in scan heavy environment for Security.   I need to update every single vSphere item on a whim because of that. Right now I just got popped on VMWARE tools.

Did you disabled secure boot in case of UEFI boot??

Otherwise %firstboot% won't work.

Trying to debug guest customization timeout but VM is deleted even with debug deployment property

Has anyone used the _debug_deployment property in vRA to troubleshoot deployment failures? I have tried to set this property for a blueprint, but the VM still gets deleted. The deployment is marked as partially successful, but the VM is still deleted. According to https://docs.vmware.com/en/vRealize-Automation/7.6/vrealize-automation-76-custom-properties.pdf :

 

"by setting _debug_deployment to true, you can more easily debug customization and first-boot (for example, agent) issues because the setting ensures that machines are not destroyed after a provisioning failure."

 

I am trying to find out why guest customization is timing out and for that I need the logs inside the VM. The issue is intermittent and usually late at night (automation) so I can never catch it in the act.

 

Has anyone else used this property and had the VM not get destroyed? Is this a bug? Is there any other way to stop vRA from destroying machines in a failed deployment?

 

I tried setting doDeletes to false in VRMAgent.exe.config, but I found out that applies to all deletions not just ones on failures. This has caused the vm storage to fill up, so I will have to revert that change.

Been running update 3 for a while problem is there. running VMware ESXi, 6.7.0, 14320388

 

 

I don't see this across all vm's at the same time, maybe this is vm tools related. running latest version 10346, version makes no difference, see across several tools versions too.

This is a common misconception. The custom property _debug_deploymentONLY works when these two conditions are true.

 

  1. Software components are in use.
  2. The failure occurred while executing the software component work item.

 

On the second point, the failure has to occur in the software component's script and not any time before that.

 

As far as the doDeletes, yes, that applies to the entire endpoint. So what you'll need to do is enable that for troubleshooting purposes to determine root cause, fix it, and then disable that.

Up until now, we've used Instant Clones with mandatory profiles, UEM (DEM), and App Volumes writable volumes with custom snapvol.cfg rules. With writable volumes, we disabled all virtualization and just used it as a hidden persistent disk. We then used junction paths to redirect applications installed in the user's local profile (Slack, Teams, OneDrive, etc.) to the writable volume instead. Any other use of App Volumes-- whether it was AppStacks, UIA + profile, etc. was all either too costly on performance, too unreliable/buggy, or both.

 

We are now in the process of completely replacing App Volumes with FSLogix O365 containers. We're able to use it in the same way we used writable volumes, except it's designed out-of-the-box to work flawlessly with Microsoft products (and it does). Just in our brief testing of Windows 10 1809 with FSLogix O365 containers and keeping UEM + mandatory profiles for profile management, login times have been reduced from about 90 seconds to 30 seconds, and all Office features are working exactly like they should. Teams auto-signs the user in after login, Outlook local OST cache + search indexing enabled provide a great e-mail experience, OneDrive is ready to go a few seconds after login and retains all previously downloaded files, etc.

 

I'm still not sold on going full profile container, but that may change down the road. Until then, I love the mix of mandatory profiles + UEM + FSLogix O365 containers, and I can't wait to get this fully tested because I know my users are going to love it too.

Hi

 

I tried command line below:

  • chown -R vcloud:vcloud /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/data/transfer
  • chmod -R 775 /opt/vmware/vcloud-director/data/transfer

which has brought appliance status to active but DB had same issue

 

No nodes found in cluster, this likely means PostgreSQL is not running on this node. Consult the management UI from another node where PostgreSQL is running. Otherwise, check /opt/vmware/var/log/vcd/vcd_ova_ui_app.log if you think this is an error.

 

Than I reinstalled once again and can't access any logs due to permission issues
